At the heart of the project lies a key question: How can communication succeed – even without spoken language?

In January 2026, this question came to life during a two-day inclusive workshop hosted by LebensGroß. Around 30 participants from Austria and Slovenia – including project partners Zavod RISA and Zavod IZOTIM, professionals, family members, and people with disabilities – came together to rethink and experience communication in new ways.

Music, Movement, and First Encounters

The first day focused on music and movement. Participants listened, perceived, and experimented. Rhythms created connection, and sounds opened spaces for interaction. In small groups, the first musical dialogues emerged – entirely without words.

At the same time, an exhibition on Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) offered the opportunity to explore different technical tools. A highlight was the visit to the LIFEtool Center, where participants experienced innovative technologies such as eye-tracking devices that allow users to control a computer with their gaze. It became clear that communication is not limited to speech – it can take place through images, symbols, gestures, or even eye movement alone.

One participant shared: “Beyond the interesting program, I will especially remember the atmosphere of kindness, connection, and friendship that shaped both days. What I saw and tried during the workshops will be very useful in my daily communication with my daughter.”

Art, Stories, and Person-Centred Methods

The second day was dedicated to performing arts and person-centred approaches. Participants painted, shared stories, reflected together, and discovered common ground. A gallery gradually emerged – showcasing individual perspectives and shared experiences.

Another participant reflected: “I had a great time at the workshops – the atmosphere was warm and inspiring. I realized that we have countless possibilities for communication. I truly stepped outside my comfort zone and will apply the skills I gained at the first opportunity.”

Inclusion in Practice

These two days clearly demonstrated that connection does not depend solely on spoken language. It grows through attentiveness, creativity, patience, and openness. The experiences gathered during the workshop will now contribute to a catalogue of good practices, written in easy-to-understand language, so that as many people as possible – professionals, families, and learners – can benefit from the insights.

CREMULEC stands for lived inclusion, cross-border collaboration, and the courage to rethink communication.

More information about the project is available on the project website:
https://risa.si/risa/cremulec/cremulec-projekt-deu/

Photo LebensGroß 2026

LebensGroß is part of the EU-funded ERASMUS+ project CREMULEC, which explores new forms of communication in adult education and support.
